Folding of Transplanted Bioprosthetic Valve Found in Transesophageal Echocardiography after Mitral Valve Replacement

Abstract

|
Since the introduction of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography(TEE) into clinical practice in the 1980s, its popularity has steadily increased. TEE can provide real time information about anatomic and hemodynamic state and guide management in cardiac surgery. We experienced a case of folding of transplanted bioprosthetic valve found in TEE during cardiopulmonary bypass in a patient undergoing mitral valve replacement. This case shows that intraoperative TEE can influences cardiac surgical decision, and the importance of echocardiographic evaluation of heart during cardiac surgery.
